Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE)

The National Center will be presenting the following panel:

Equity and School Improvement: State Agencies Apply the Evidence Base - 9/21 4:15-5:15

The purpose of the panel will be to share the process of applying the findings in the consensus report Monitoring Educational Equity to the real-life challenges experienced by state and local education agencies as they grapple with the challenges inherent in improving low performing schools. In joining the CoP, states identified a series of challenges they hoped to address, including ineffective improvement plans that do not address system and structural changes resulting in persistent identification of the same schools; one-size-fits-all solutions that do not take into account the needs in different contexts; state identification and monitoring processes that use data which is not credible to local districts and schools; insufficient attention to teacher, learner, community contributions, knowledge and agency; and inter-departmental differences in understanding the supports required by different schools and students.
